Gina Huang is a Taiwanese choral conductor, vocalist, and music educator with a strong foundation in piano. She began her formal musical training in Taiwan with an emphasis on vocal performance, while also receiving extensive piano training from junior high school through her first year of university. During this period, piano was her principal instrument, providing her with rigorous training in technique, solo repertoire, sight-reading, and collaborative musicianship—skills that deeply informed her vocal development and later work in choral conducting.
Throughout her secondary education, Huang was actively involved as a collaborative pianist. She served as the accompanist for her high school choir and regularly worked with instrumentalists and vocalists, providing piano accompaniment for rehearsals, lessons, and performances. She also participated in numerous local and regional piano competitions in Taiwan, earning high distinctions and awards.
After her first year of undergraduate study, Huang transitioned her major to vocal performance and completed her Bachelor of Music degree at National Sun Yat-sen University. Her collegiate studies focused on vocal technique, diction, ensemble singing, and musicianship. During this time, she participated in many regional vocal competitions in Taiwan with outstanding results and frequently appeared as a soloist in choral concerts, gaining extensive stage and ensemble experience.
Huang later moved to the United States to pursue advanced studies and earned her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. While at NEC, she worked closely with a wide range of choral ensembles, serving as an assistant conductor and gaining in-depth experience in rehearsal methodology, vocal pedagogy, score study, and choral repertoire across diverse styles and languages.
After returning to Taiwan, Huang became deeply engaged in choral music at both the community and educational levels. She served as conductor of adult, youth, and school choirs, leading ensembles in regular concerts, national competitions, and cultural festivals. Under her leadership, these choirs received multiple top honors in Taiwan’s major choral competitions, including First Prizes at the National Hakka Choir Competition.
In addition to her conducting career, Huang has extensive experience in children’s music education, offering both vocal and piano instruction. Her teaching emphasizes healthy vocal development, strong technical foundations, attentive listening, and expressive musical communication. Her integrated approach reflects her background as a vocalist supported by solid piano training, enabling her to guide young musicians with clarity and musical insight.
Huang is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she continues her work as a choral conductor and music educator, providing vocal training, piano instruction, and ensemble coaching for children and young musicians.
