Dr. Cen

Melody Cen holds a music doctoral degree from the University of Kansas, in her illustrious career as a professional classical singer, she has performed as the title role of Miss Silberklang in Mozart’s opera Der Schauspieldirektor, Pamina and one of the Spirits in The Magic Flute, Sister Genovieffa in Puccini’s opera Suor Angelica, Drusilla in Monteverdi’s opera L’incoronazione di Poppea, Floral in Benjamin Britten’s opera The Turn of the Screw and solo soprano in Handel’s Messiah.

 

In terms of competition and honors, Dr. Cen was awarded the Second Prize at the 2023 MAP International Music Competition and awarded the Second Prize at American International Music Competition.

In addition, she was recognized as the Best Performer during the 43rd Acupuncture Legalization Day in California and received the title of Outstanding Performer in the 4th College Students Art Exhibition held in Shanghai. Previously, she has performed in New York, California, Kansas, and Shanghai Oriental Art Center, and had participated in esteemed music programs such as International Opera Program in the Julliard School, Soprano Shigemi Matsumoto Master Class Program in California, and Lawrence Opera Theater program.

 

Dr. Cen is deeply committed to academic research as well. In 2022, she participated as a presenter at the 71st Midwest Conference of Asian Affairs, where she delivered a dissertation on the topic of Music in the Cultural Revolution. Her proposal for the 2023 MCAA conference at The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign has also been selected. Furthermore, Dr. Cen has been invited by Professor Shi of Xidan University as a guest presenter for two lectures, focusing on music education and cultivation for young artists. Additionally, she collaborated with Professor Shi and will publish a comprehensive dissertation in 2024 that analyzes and provides insights into the process of cultivating music students. Regarding music education, Dr. Cen has collaborated with Muselit Company and published a music appreciation course titled Classical Music Appreciation: Romantic Music that Never Stops.
