             Chinese cellist Ms. Xu is frequently lauded for her passion, excellent technical skill, intelligence and musical imagination. As an experienced cellist, Jiaoyang has given numerous solo recitals in the United States, Europe and in China. She has played in various concert halls in China such as The Beijing Concert Hall and The Art Salon of Crown Plaza in Beijing. Jiaoyang has also performed in several venues in the United States, such as Kennedy Center in Washington District, Coolidge Auditorium in the Library of Congress, Alfred Newman Recital Hall of the University of Southern California, the Leith Symington Griswold Hall and Cohen-Davidson Family Theatre of Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and Francis Auditorium of Mary Baldwin College.

         As an active performer, Ms. Xu has participated in many music festivals and master classes. She has performed in the opening gala at the Manchester Summer Chamber Music in 2019. In the summer of 2018, as a fellowship student, Jiaoyang has attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival. At the festival, she has not only played in the masterclass of Narek Harutyunyan, but also played side-by-side with many faculties. In 2016, Ms. Xu has attended the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival as one of the fellows at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. At the Festival, she has performed in the Walter Disney Hall aside with many world-known cellists include Misha Miskey, Ralph Kirshbaum, Truls Mørk, Sol Gabetta, Jens Peter Maintz, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Giovanni Sollima, Raphael Wallfisch, Laurence Lesser and Li-Wei Qin. In the Festival, Jiaoyang has also played in a masterclass taught by Thomas Demenga. In 2015, Ms. Xu has participated in the Heifetz International Music Institute in Staunton, Virginia. At Heifetz, she has not only studied with numerous cello professors, including Laurence Lesser, but also performed with faculty there, including Steven Stone and Rosemary Elliot. Jiaoyang has been selected to play for both Daniel Müller-Schott and Zuill Bailey in masterclasses in 2014.

             As an experienced teacher, Ms. Xu started teaching in 2015. She has also obtained a master’s degree in Cello Pedagogy at Peabody Institute. During the program, she has not only been instructed by several professors from the music education department, but also teaching students from the Peabody Preparatory weekly. Through the program, Jiaoyang Xu gained more insight about teaching and developed her general teaching philosophy. In 2016, Ms. Xu has become the cello instruction at the ARTI-ST Music Education Center in Maryland. In the same year, she was nominated by professor Amit Peled as an assistant for the “First Hour” scale class in his studio at Peabody Institute.

            Born in China in 1992, Jiaoyang Xu began her study of cello at the age of five. She gave her first performance when she was six in Beijing. In September 2003, Jiaoyang got accepted into

the middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music where she studied with Professor Yuan Chen and Zhiwen Situ. As a scholarship student at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Ms. Xu studied with Professor Amit Peled and obtained both Bachelor of Music Degree and Master of Music in Cello Performance and Pedagogy. Ms. Xu studied with Mr. Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory as a Dean’s Scholarship recipient. She is beginning her Doctoral Degree at Peabody Institute in the fall of 2020.
