Chinese classical pianist Ray Lei is a youngest member of Wuhan Musicians’ Association. He has won over 20 national and international piano competitions, including first prize at the Budapest Chopin International Piano Competition, first prize at the Macao-Asia Pacific Youth Piano Competition, first prize at the Rachmaninoff International Youth Piano Competition (China Area), first prize at the Yamaha Asia Music Scholarship Competition, etc. He is also a major prize winner of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Piano Concerto Competition, Music Teachers National Association(MTNA)-Steinway Young Artist Piano Competition(California), Berkeley Piano Club Dorothy Van Waynen Competition, China Central Television Piano Competition, Wenhua National Piano Competition and Hong kong-Asia Piano Open Competition. He has taken master classes with many famous artists, including Leon Fleisher, John Perry, Douglas Humpherys, Robert McDonald, Piotr Paleczny.
Mr. Lei has already appeared as a soloist with orchestras, including the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Wuhan Conservatory of Music Oriental Youth Symphony Orchestra. He received a considerable amount of praise from the audience after he gave numerous of piano recitals, charity concerts, lectures across many venues in the United States and China, including the San Francisco Osher Salon Hall, Sol Joseph Recital Hall and Caroline Hume Concert Hall, Shanghai Concert hall, Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall, Fuzhou Great Hall, Yangzhou Concert Hall, Hainan Agile Clearwater Bay Arts Center, Chongqing Cultural Palace Theater, Shenzhen Xinqiao Art Center, Yichang Theater, Guizhou Education University Concert Hall, Ningde Normal University, Xiantao Vocational College.
In 2019, He was performing on the national tour in China, including Wuhan, Sanya, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Yichang. He has been featured in some interviews by China Central Television, Wuhan Television, Chinese music journals.
Mr. Lei received early training in the Attached Middle School of Wuhan Conservatory of Music with Liping Jiang. He earned his Bachelor of Music at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is currently pursuing Master of Music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with full scholarship under the tutelage of professor Yoshikazu Nagai.
